With regard to straw baling, Robinson Contract Services has over 40 years experience and for several years has been the UK’s largest straw baling and handling business. We currently operate a fleet of up to 12 Hesston 4900 type balers (each bale consists of approximately 550kgs of straw, compacted into an 8’ x 4’ x 4’ bale) and 5 Heath Superchasers (unit-led self-loading trailers capable of picking up and carrying ten bales). Together with all necessary field clearance and stacking equipment, we bale and clear up to 25,000 acres of cereal straw annually.
The Company has over 25 years co-operation with Northern Straw Company Ltd, which is the country’s leading straw merchant, and through them we supply upwards of 40,000 bales to the straw-burning electricity generating plant at Ely near Cambridge.
We have recently been offered, and have accepted in principle, an opportunity to procure straw in the Holderness and Wolds area of East Yorkshire for a proposed straw-burning power station situated at Tansterne in mid-Holderness . Given our experience, knowledge and equipment (with any necessary additions to the fleet) we feel that we are quite capable of meeting this challenge, without compromising the importance and need for a speedy and efficient field clearance service to avoid delaying the all-important autumn cultivation programmes.
